Orange Farm in Südafrika
Die Orange Farm ist die grösste nicht bewilligte Siedlung in Südafrika. Das Gebiet ist ein isolierter Teil von Johannesburg (in J'burg geschehen mehr Morde als Verkehrsunfälle) und beheimatet schätzungsweise 1.2 Millionen Menschen und ein mehrfaches an Problemen wie z.B.- Arbeitslosigkeit von 70%
- 50% der Kinder haben Aids
- 68% der Haushalte liegen unter der Armutsgrenze
- 66% der Einwohner leben in selber gemachten Hütten
- nur 23% der Einwohner haben einen Grundschul-Abschluss
- tausende Kindern sind Waisen und leiden unter grosser Armut.
Nahrung und Bildung sind die Schlüssel für eine bessere Zukunft dieser Menschen. JAM ernährt seit Februar 2005 über 5'000 Kinder in 9 Primarschulen und einer Sekundarschule in der Orange Farm. Die Nahrung wird aufgrund der vielen Aids-Kinder mit speziellen Zusätzen ergänzt. Im Weiteren gibt JAM Essens-Packete für ganzen Familien ab. Als Teil der Entwicklungsstrategie für dieses Gebiet hilft JAM Privatpersonen und Schulen Gemüsegärten anzulegen um die Nahrungssituation zu verbessern und den Familien und Schulen ein kleines Einkommen zu ermöglichen. In den nächsten drei Jahren sollen 1'500 solcher Gärten angelegt werden. JAM vermittelt im speziellen auch Frauen Mikokredite, damit sie durch eigene, kleine Unternehmungen ihre Lebenssituationen selber verbessern können.
